Posted in Thoughts about Life with tags Devlin Forsythe, Pink Apron, Simplicity Brides, Simplicity Gourmet on January 15, 2009 by devlinforsytheI believe that couples/families that eat together and pray together, stay together. If we go back in time 30 or 40 years ago, how many couples/families ate together at home around a dinner table? I think we can agree that most did. How many get to do that today? I think we can agree that the number is a lot lower than in the past. My wife and I both agree on this, when we were young, the dinner table was one of the main places our parents got to fix our thinking. We had been in the “world” all day, subjected to the “world’s” version of truth, morality, acceptable behavior and thinking. At the table was where our parents told us “That’s not how our family thinks, acts or believes.” We constantly hear in our society, it’s how the child is raised. we also hear, the world has changed, it’s harder for parents and children today with all of our modern ways and technology. I’ve been taught that practices can change, but principals never do. If we take families away from a dinner table and constantly go out to eat or hit drive thrus, we take away one of parents most crucial tools for mentoring and guiding their children’s thoughts and ultimately their decisions and actions. With that type of lifestyle I could agree that raising children can be harder today. It not only affects the children, but the relationship of the parents. The divorce rate in recent years has risen to over 60 percent, a number I think we all can agree that dwarfs the amount of divorces just 30 or 40 years ago. Just my opinion.
Worry & Stress, a self fulfilling prophecy
Posted in Thoughts about Life with tags devlin, Devlin Forsythe, forsythe, Pink Apron, Simplicity Brides, Simplicity Gourmet on January 15, 2009 by devlinforsytheI believe when we focus on a possible negative outcome or “stress” about it, we act in a manner that all but guarantees the result that we fear. If faith is believing in things unseen, then so is fear. In both instances we make a decision about what the future holds, without any real evidence. So, it boils down to the way we choose to see the world. Do we expect things to go wrong as our default setting? Do we expect all things to work together for the glory of the lord? Do we truly believe that a higher power is in charge, or do we just pay that concept lip service. Are we in the desert for 40 years receiving mana from heaven every day and following a pillar of fire every night and still wondering if God is in control and will truly take care of us? When do we finally give in and realize we are covered by grace? Either we are a leaf being carried by the wind, out of control with no true hope, or there is a plan for us designed by our creator. At some point we have to decide what we truly believe, and not abandon those beliefs on a daily basis as circumstances affect us.
